Madrid's nightlife sector claims to be in critical condition . The latest measures imposed by the regional government to prevent outbreaks due to Covid-19 represented the final thrust for these establishments , according to reports. That is why this weekend the capital's bars, clubs and tablaos will close its doors for the first time in its history as a protest measure and to demand a rescue plan from the authorities.

For the Madrid Leisure Platform, the decisions taken by the regional government against this sector "seem arbitrary and disproportionate " and "are nothing more than a trap to provoke the closure of the premises , avoiding the necessary debate on the start-up of rescue measures and financial support for the activity of leisure and entertainment companies, "they said in a statement.

In addition, they have highlighted that the imposition of the closing at 1.30 am and the prohibition of receiving more customers after one, the restriction on the capacity - which in the case of discotheques reaches 40% - and the ban on the track dance "make it impossible to maintain economic activity and jobs in entertainment venues." Thus, the sector is facing a true "economic disaster", where nightclubs lose an average of 25,000 euros each month and discos and nightclubs, more than 100,000 euros . In addition, in the first half of 2020, nightlife lost 35,783 workers (19% of the total) and 453 self-employed entrepreneurs .

Another critical fact that worries the sector is that since the reopening of the premises was allowed, only 35% opened their doors, including no discotheques, and they reached only 32% of the regular public , which has meant that in many cases there are more losses than gains.

For all this, the different groups have suggested that the total closure of their activity be decreed as a matter of urgency and that a shock rescue plan be activated for SMEs "that should be aimed at injecting liquidity into the total payments for rents and protection of jobs ". Proposal that has not yet come from the authorities.

Also, from this organization they warn that the objective data provided by the Health Administration itself are being ignored and "the focus is on the danger to the health of nightlife venues" when it should not be . Some data indicating that nationwide this activity accounts for 6.2% of outbreaks and 8.2% of total new infections that have occurred during the week of July 27 to August 2, taking into account that in Madrid there has been no special incidence.

The Platform for Leisure expects that the act of protesting this end of oksemana will have a 95% follow-up in the city's entertainment venues . In addition, they hope that next week the measures will be reviewed, once 14 days have elapsed since the reduction of hours was implemented and the negotiation on the rescue plan was activated.
