The continuous days of high temperature weather caused the local grid load to hit a record high, reaching 21.88 million kilowatts, setting a new record for the highest load of 21.38 million kilowatts set in 2019.
This year, affected by the new crown epidemic, the electricity load in Chongqing from January to March was relatively sluggish. Since May, the economic stabilization signal has gradually appeared. Coupled with the cooling load caused by the continuous high temperature weather, the load on the Chongqing power grid is continuing to rise. The growth rate of electricity sales of State Grid Chongqing Electric Power Company in April turned from negative to positive, and the year-on-year growth rate reached 14.54% in July. According to forecasts, the city's highest electricity load will reach 23.3 million kilowatts in 2020, a year-on-year increase of 9%.
As the temperature continues to rise, in order to ensure the safe operation of Chongqing power grid equipment during the peak summer period, the State Grid Chongqing Electric Power Company completed more than 5,000 spring inspections in the first half of the year, and successfully completed ±800 kV Fufeng, Jinsu, Qishao Line maintenance and elimination tasks, accumulatively investigated and treated more than 5,500 hidden dangers such as cables and passages, and substation fire protection. The company also put into operation a series of power grid enhancement projects before the peak summer to improve the transmission capacity of the Sichuan-Chongqing channel.

Facing the Lianqing high temperature weather, the State Grid Chongqing Electric Power Company further optimized the grid operation mode, implemented technical plans, adopted measures to increase power purchases, strengthened equipment operation and maintenance and troubleshooting, and carried out emergency response. Service work to ensure the safe and stable operation of the power grid.
In terms of on-duty and emergency repairs, the State Grid Chongqing Electric Power Company will strengthen on-duty, strictly implement the safety production duty system during peak summer months, set up 438 emergency repair stations, 4143 emergency repair personnel, 812 emergency repair vehicles, and 46 emergency repairs. The generator car is on standby 24 hours a day. In the event of a sudden power outage caused by external damage, equipment failure, extreme weather, etc., it will quickly carry out on-site repairs and emergency power protection.
At the same time, the State Grid Chongqing Electric Power Company appealed to the general public to effectively implement power-saving measures during periods of high temperature and heavy load to reduce the pressure on the grid and ensure an orderly supply of power.
