Several Stade Français players tested positive for Covid-19 on their return from a training camp in Nice, the Top 14 club said on Wednesday, the daily L'Equipe evoking "more than ten players" infected.

"The compulsory weekly Covid-19 test carried out by professional players at Stade Français Paris has been positive for some of them," the Parisian club said in a statement without disclosing their number or identity.

"The latter, asymptomatic, were immediately isolated and placed in quarantine in accordance with government directives and the instructions of the ARS. New tests will be carried out from Monday," added the club in the capital.

Even asymptomatic, these cases are very bad news for the Stade Français one month before the resumption, on September 4 against Bordeaux-Bègles.

The Parisians' first preparation match against Brive, scheduled for August 14 in Tulle, has been canceled, said the Corrèze club. Stade Français is due to travel to Toulon at the end of August to face the RCT.

On Saturday, Lyon had announced three positive cases for Covid-19, "all asymptomatic", within its professional workforce, which led to the cancellation of a preparation course. The three players concerned were isolated and placed in fourteen.

In Pro D2, Provence Rugby and Soyaux-Angoulême have announced in recent days that they have detected a positive case in their workforce.

The new coronavirus pandemic has killed at least 708,236 people worldwide since the WHO office in China reported the onset of the disease at the end of December, according to a report established by AFP from official sources Thursday at 1:00 p.m.
