A spokesman for the Ethiopian Foreign Ministry, Dina Mufti, confirmed that his country would not sign agreements with the Nile Basin countries that would deny it the implementation of its future projects, while Egypt renewed its rejection of the Ethiopian unilateral filling of the Renaissance Dam.

Mufti said in an interview with the official Ethiopian TV that his country wants to sign the agreement, but it should be beneficial to everyone.

He pointed out that Ethiopia believes in the necessity of signing an agreement that does not harm Egypt and Sudan, but that it does not restrict us or prevent us from implementing projects for future generations to benefit from the waters of the Nile, "We must be careful, this is a red line."

Egypt had sent a message to the African Union, confirming Cairo's rejection of the unilateral Ethiopian filling of the Renaissance Dam, and what was stated in the recent speech of the Ethiopian Minister of Water on the operation and mobilization of the Renaissance Dam, and considered it contrary to the outcomes of the African Summit.

Egypt said that it sent the message to South Africa as the president of the current session of the African Union, confirming its adherence to signing a binding agreement on the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, and its rejection of what was stated in the speech of the last Ethiopian Water Minister, who talked about guidelines and not a binding agreement.

In her statement, she stated that what was stated in the Ethiopian minister's speech also violated the outcomes of the African mini-summit, which stressed the need to reach a binding agreement and not guidelines.
