He stated this in an interview with Dmitry Gordon, published on the Ukrainian journalist's YouTube channel.

“They called me the last dictator of Europe a long time ago, and Madeleine Albright, the then US Secretary of State, gave me this nickname. Probably, I did not quite fit into the standards of Western democracy. Now they understand that there is some rational grain in Lukashenka's policy, and the order and stability that exist in Belarus, ”Lukashenka said.

He also noted that his nickname Old Man has become a kind of brand.

“I kindly liked it 20 years ago. And now I am indifferent to this, with humor, because this is already a certain brand of Belarus and Lukashenka himself, ”the president said.

He noted that this nickname was given to him by the former governor of the Krasnodar Territory Nikolai Kondratenko. 

In 2015, Lukashenko, in an interview with Bloomberg, called the United States the only dictator in the world.
