Chilean striker Alexis Sanchez, free from any contract with Manchester United, has signed a three-year contract with Inter Milan where he was on loan this season, the Italian club announced Thursday.

"Alexis Sanchez has joined the Nerazzurri on a free transfer," Inter said in a statement.

The 31-year-old, who was previously on loan from Manchester United to the Lombard club this season, has signed a contract which runs until June 30, 2023.

Under Antonio Conte, Sanchez has scored four goals this season with Inter, who finished 2nd in Serie A behind Juventus after a great end to the season.

The pugnacious South American joined Manchester from Arsenal in January 2018, in a trade with Armenian Henrikh Mkhitaryan, but never managed to win, scoring just five goals in 45 appearances.

"Everyone at Manchester United wishes Alexis Sánchez the best in his future career, as he joins Inter Milan for a permanent transfer," the Premier League club said.

He will meet at Inter his former teammate with the Red Devils, the Belgian Romelu Lukaku, who connects the goals in blue and black.

It was in Italy that Sanchez had landed from his native Chile, playing his first European season at Udinese in 2008-09. He then played for FC Barcelona for three seasons, notably winning La Liga in 2013, before signing for Arsenal (2014-18).

With Chile, the center-forward or winger has scored 43 goals in 132 caps and won the Copa America twice (2015, 2016).
