• Courts. 3% Judge Sends Three Former CDC Managers to the Bench for Criminal Organization

In the face of a pre-electoral climate in Catalonia with the two parties that make up the Govern that are launching tactical challenges at every moment, even sometimes at the cost of fighting the coronavirus pandemic, it is not surprising that political corruption is a new reason for attrition . ERC started it a few days ago when, through its national coordinator and vice-president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, he assured that he would propose to the Consell de Govern that the Catalan administration appear as an accusation in the judicial proceeding against former charges of the Democratic Convergence of Catalonia for the '3% case'. Aragonès considered that the Generalitat should recover "up to the last euro" of public money allegedly derived from works awards by administrations to certain companies in exchange for payments to Artur Mas's party.

The President of the Generalitat, Quim Torra, picked up the ERC order and assured on Tuesday that he will act with "all radicalism" in the cause of the '3% although he conditioned a personation as a private accusation to whether the Catalan administration suffered any "economic damage" . For this, the legal services of the Generalitat are analyzing the documentation of this case. "Naturally, this Govern and this president, if there is ever economic damage to the Generalitat, will act accordingly and with all radicality," said Torra, who thus avoided clearly positioning himself to the ERC request to recover "until the last euro "of money supposedly diverted to finance Convergència.

Despite this, the Government leaves the door open to appear "if those minimum damages are detected", as Torra said, in a judicial process that directly affects CDC, a formation from which the PDeCAT descends directly and is part of Junts Per Catalunya, despite the fact that its founders such as Torra himself or Carles Puigdemont, have wanted to disassociate themselves. They have shared deputies and management positions and the JxCat parliamentary group transferred half of the 4.5 million euros it received as a grant from the Catalan Chamber to CDC two years ago.

This Monday, the PDeCAT spokesman, Marc Solsona, accused the ERC national coordinator, Pere Aragonès, of doing "partisanship" by proposing that the Generalitat stand as an accusation in the '3% case'. "The PDeCAT is not responsible for any criminal act," said Solsona, because because when the investigated events happened, "this formation that was created in 2016 as heir to the old CDC, did not exist", refounding its structures but maintaining many of its characteristics. and its leaders, including Artur Mas, who held the presidency of Convergència and also that of the PDeCAT.

However, Solsona considered "quite surreal" that PDeCAT be linked to this corruption case and warned that his party will not have "a passive or defensive attitude" on this issue. "We will not accept that we can be branded as a corrupt party," he added, stating that the Govern "will know very well what it has to do or not do."

For her part, the deputy of Citizens (Cs) in the Parliament Sonia Sierra assured that the ERC's request for the Generalitat to persist in this judicial procedure "has no credibility" because her party already raised it in the Parliament and the ERC voted against , with which he considers that this is part of "the fight between JxCat and ERC to win support among the independence movement."
