Normally, gliders usually need a motor aircraft that with a wire tows the glider to a height where it can fend for itself and fly on through windings from thermals. The motor aircraft make a lot of noise, which can be experienced as disturbing by nearby residents as there are many trips up and down during a day. At the same time, aviation is exposed to increasing criticism from an environmental and climate point of view.

But with the winch that Borlänge Flying Club has now started to use, the emissions and noise are reduced at the same time as the gliders get a new experience at the very moment of take-off.

In the clip above, you see our reporter trying out the breathtaking, catapult-like start.
