05 August 2020 First queues on the new Genova San Giorgio bridge open to traffic yesterday evening. Two years after the collapse it killed 43 people united again in the west and east of the city. Meanwhile, the investigation continues on the reasons and responsibilities of the collapse

Motorists who slow down to take photos and many trucks lined up due to the intense traffic between Genoa Airport and the junction between A10 Genoa - Ventimiglia and the A7 Genoa - Milan, are the causes of the traffic jams. As for the traffic on the Genoese junction there are queues of three kilometers on the A7 between Sampierdarena and the junction with the A12 Genova - Livorno, for works. In A10, two kilometers of queues at the junction between A7 and A10 and Pegli for works and one kilometer queue between Pegli and Genoa Airport.

A real carousel of cars, a truck with all the cabin lights on and the two-tone horns unfolded, motorcyclists with their left hand raised in victory. There was a tangible emotion yesterday sea on the San Giorgio bridge which, reopened at 22 o'clock, has become passable on both directions.

The signal arrived from the Aspi operations center a few seconds before 10 pm. At that point the two luminous signals found on the arch of the Coronata tunnel changed from red to green simultaneously, as if it were the starting line of a Grand Prix.

That was the signal: the Aspi staff removed the two barriers that closed the lanes: the stretch of A10 that connects the west and east of the city, inaugurated yesterday and finally complete, has been reopened. The Coronata tunnel, illuminated by day, 500 meters of white panels and luminous signs, led the caravan, guided by the Polstrada safety car, to the illuminated bridge with the Tricolor. It was at that moment that the cars began to pass on the two two carriageways, celebrating with horns the found bridge that overlooks, like the bridge of a large ship, on the night Genoa and its port, fully illuminated.

The traffic police and Aspi staff traveled the kilometer and a half of the road with a long caravan of journalists to the Genova Ovest toll booth, which seemed to be stormed both at the entrance and the exit. Many Genoese who did not want to miss the moment, as if that rediscovered bridge was a great collective achievement.
