South East Asia Representative for the Protection of Journalists (CPJ) Shawn Krispain called on the Malaysian government to stop every investigation related to Al-Jazeera journalists, after the Malaysian police raided the network's office in Kuala Lumpur in the context of a criminal investigation against the background of a documentary film broadcast by the network last month on the treatment of Malaysian authorities for illegal immigrants During the Corona pandemic.

The representative of the commission called on the Malaysian government and the prime minister to stop treating journalists as criminals, he added.

The commission added that six employees of the network office, including journalists, were being pursued in an investigation that included charges of incitement, defamation, and violation of the communications law.

In a statement, the Al-Jazeera network described the office's raid as a disturbing escalation, calling on the Malaysian authorities to put an end to their investigations of the network's journalists.

The network said in a statement that the police seized two computers from the office during the raid.
