05 August 2020The son of the historic boss of Cosanostra Tano Badalementi was arrested by Dia at his mother's home in Castellamare del Golfo, in the province of Trapani.

Leonardo Badalamenti's arrest - reports Ansa - was carried out in execution of an international arrest warrant issued by the judicial authority of San Paolo, Brazil, for criminal association aimed at drug trafficking and ideological falsehood. Pending extradition, Badalementi was transferred to the Pagliarelli prison in Palermo.

Leonardo Badalamenti, 60, is the second son of Don Tano, the boss who in the seventies was head of the dome of Cosa Nostra and then recognized as the instigator of the murder of Peppino Impastato.

For the Brazilian authority Leonardo - who went around with a false identity, that of the Brazilian businessman Carlos Massetti and who had registered in that country the birth of his first son by calling him as his grandfather, Gaetano - was in hiding from the 2017 following the issuance by the judicial authority of Barra Funda of an arrest warrant.

In Brazil, among other things, he had already been arrested in 2009: that time it was the Ros of the Carabinieri who handcuffed him as part of an operation that led to the arrest of 19 other people accused, in competition, of mafia association , corruption, fraud for obtaining public funds and fraudulent transfer of values.

Not only. On Badalamenti there were a series of investigations by the Brazilian authorities. He was in fact investigated because, according to the investigators - ANSA always reports - he was the head of a criminal organization committed between 2003 and 2004 to negotiate public debt securities issued by Venezuela through the intermediation of a corrupt official of the Central bench. Securities that were used to guarantee the opening of credit lines in foreign banking institutions. And he was accused of attempting a fraud against the branches of the Hong Kong Shanghai Bank, Lehman Brothers and HSBC for an amount of several hundred million dollars.

The men of the Dia of Palermo coordinated by the 'Judicial Investigations' department in collaboration with the Service for International Police Cooperation (SCIP) and the Brazilian police arrested Don Tano's son.
