Of the airport's 2,600 employees, 650 people are now threatened with dismissal. In a press release, Copenhagen airport writes that the implementation of the dismissals will be discussed with the union.

CEO Thomas Wolbye calls the decision the saddest during his nine years at the airport, but believes that it is necessary to secure the future of the airport's operations and finances.

Big loss during the pandemic

During the first half of the year, the airport had a total loss of DKK 228 million before tax and the number of passengers fell during the first half of the year to a historically low level.

In total, passenger traffic was 65.2 percent lower during the first half of the year compared with the same period in 2019, according to Copenhagen airport.
