In response to U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Azhar’s plan to visit Taiwan, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said at a regular press conference on August 5 that China firmly opposes official exchanges between the U.S. and Taiwan. This position is consistent and clear. Yes, China has lodged solemn representations with the US in Beijing and Washington.

He said that the Taiwan issue is the most important and sensitive issue in Sino-US relations, and the one-China principle is the political foundation of Sino-US relations.

"We urge the US to abide by the one-China principle and the provisions of the three Sino-US joint communiqués, stop all forms of official exchanges between the US and Taiwan, handle Taiwan-related issues carefully and properly, and refrain from sending any wrong signals to the'Taiwan independence' forces to avoid serious damage to Sino-US relations. Peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait." He said.

Wang Wenbin emphasized that the one-China principle is recognized by the international community. Any attempt to ignore, deny or challenge the one-China principle will end in failure. (Reporter Zhang Su and editor Gao Yuhui)
