Zeroing is the first weeks at the universities when older students guide the new ones and you get to know each other.

- It is one of the most important things a university has, it is a wonderful feeling when everyone is going to start studying and has moved away from home and is looking for contact, says August Goldhahn, chairman of the student union StuFF in Linköping.

This year you have to think new. The university management has come up with directives to reduce the risk of the corona spreading. The big party reception in the Saab arena will not end either. Famous artists usually perform there in front of around 8000 students, but it will be run digitally this year instead.

Mouth protection and distance

In Visby, there will be similar restrictions. Eva Cunningham is study social chair of the student union Rindi on Gotland. She explains that the zeroing week in early September will be different events on the computer:

- We will, for example, post videos, have party games and pub quiz online.

A few weeks later, the new Gotland students will be able to meet physically, but severely limited, in groups of a maximum of 12 people:

- We will not have any contact games, but we try to make it as fun as possible, for example, we will hand out mouth guards with our logo on and have games that are about keeping your distance.

It is unclear how many "lambs" there will be

She says that the planning of the zeroing has been difficult, partly they have had to change the structure three times depending on the information they received from the Public Health Agency and partly they do not know how many students come to the zeroing, or "paralysis" as it is called on Gotland.

- Students have been given permission to continue with distance education if they want, at the same time as there are many more admitted than usual, so we do not know how many will come, it can be anything between 200 and 400.
