- I do not know in detail what happened. But this is the first time I have seen an ambulance get stuck in asphalt. But it was one of the hottest days of the summer, says Valentin Lindholm, operations manager for the ambulance in Gävleborg, about the current 30 minutes on June 26, which meant that staff at the ambulance in Bollnäs wrote a deviation report.

No pass

The reason for the report was that SOS-Alarm in Falun, which is responsible for directing ambulances in Gävleborg, was forced to send an ambulance from central Bollnäs to Söderhamn to take care of an emergency matter. This meant that the patient had to wait longer than usual for an ambulance. In normal situations when there are no emergency ambulances in Söderhamn, an ambulance is sent from Bollnäs on a so-called pass at the municipal border between the two municipalities to reduce the emergency response time.

Not the first time

According to the complainant, it should not have been the first time this summer that it should have happened that an ambulance was allowed to go on emergency call from central Bollnäs to central Söderhamn.

- It was probably a lot of unfortunate circumstances that created this particular problem that day. I think we have done well this summer in southern Hälsingland. We have had the necessary resources despite corona times, says Valentin Lindholm.

- Then you should be aware that it is far to the emergency hospitals in Hudiksvall and Gävle from this area and that situations like this can therefore arise. But then it is SOS-Alarm's responsibility to, if possible, direct ambulances from other parts of the county to the area.

Historic day

According to SOS-Alarm, the pressure at this time was so strong with about 20 cases with high priority, which meant that it was not possible to send an ambulance for a pass to Söderhamn.

- This day went to the 112 story regarding the load, writes SOS-Alarm.

No patient was injured due to the extended waiting time for an ambulance in Söderhamn.
