In June, the lab staff at Sahlgrenska alerted about an unsustainable situation with covid tests that could not be handled. The question is whether you are better prepared this time.

- We know that there is great interest, but at the same time we have measured how the capacity is with our care providers in private and our own. We know that we have the capacity to cope with this, says Jan Killhamn who is chief of staff in the regional special health care management.

Hard criticism of the region

SVT Väst has previously reported on how the lab at Sahlgrenska has been close to collapsing when the region introduced general sampling. The load was unsustainable, according to department staff.

- Right now we are the backbone and the skeleton in this entire healthcare system. If we are not able to do our job and analyze these covid samples, then everything will fall apart, said Marie Karlsson, biomedical analyst at Sahlgrenska, earlier this summer.

Starts in September

According to the chief of staff, they now have an ongoing dialogue with all laboratories, so that there will not be a lot of pressure, the idea is that the public will be allowed to test antibodies from September, something that GP also reported on.
