03 August 2020The Manhattan Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation into the President of the United States Donald Trump and his company for possible bank and insurance fraud: this is, according to what the New York Times says that broke the news exclusively, of an investigation significantly larger than what prosecutors have already conducted in the past.

The office of the district attorney, Cyrus R. Vance Jr., a well-known Democrat, has asked to be able to examine the tax returns of Donald Trump and the company relating to the last 8 years. Trump asked a judge to declare the summons null.

According to evidence held by the investigators, Trump illegally inflated the net worth and the value of his properties with lenders and insurers, a circumstance already
strongly denied by Trump's lawyers. The confrontation for the subpoena comes less than a month after the Supreme Court, in a ruling on the limits of presidential power, gave the go-ahead to the Prosecutor's office in consulting President Trump's financial documents.
