The "excellent" results of the live fire of the Luoma Lake ship of the Navy in the southern theater of the war have been criticized, causing discussion-
  how valuable is a shell

In the midsummer season, a certain naval combat support ship detachment of the Southern Theater Command launched live fire training in a certain area of the South China Sea.

On the rough sea, the battleship swayed with the swelling waves. "Azimuth, distance, floating thunder found!" As soon as the Luoma Lake ship arrived in the predetermined sea area, the alarm sounded suddenly.

Measuring distance, aiming position... Liu Lifeng, the deputy captain of the Luoma Lake ship, gave an order, and the gunner decisively pulled the trigger. With several loud noises of "bang, bang, bang", the floating mines in the distance were accurately destroyed.

"This is "excellent" nailed down!" Liu Lifeng's hanging heart was relieved, and then the gunner's voice came from the phone: "There are 5 shells left in the barrel, please indicate."

"Anyway, I have accurately hit the floating target at sea, and there are no other targets to hit. Why bother to deal with the remaining shells and simply shoot them out..." After weighing in his heart, Liu Lifeng issued the command: "Clear the chamber and shoot!" The gunner immediately detained. With the trigger, the remaining 5 shells were consumed by the gunner in a way of experiencing shooting.

"The assessment results are excellent!" Liu Lifeng was very happy after hearing the results announced by the assessment team. At the training seminar that night, he thought he could be praised, but he was the first to be criticized.

"The remaining shells were wasted like this? What targets were hit? What training benefits are there..." The chief of staff of the detachment who guided the training on the ship caused a series of questions, which triggered reflections from the assessment team and the ship commander.

But Liu Lifeng also has his own difficulties: the ammunition consumption for each live ammunition training is reported for approval in advance, and in principle must be consumed as planned. In this case, there is indeed a problem of shooting to consume ammunition.

"Each shell must play its due benefit, and no one is redundant!" The chief of staff pointed out this problem seriously: "Although 5 rounds of'clearing shot' shells are recorded in the annual ammunition consumption However, the input is not directly proportional to the output, resulting in huge waste."

The ship immediately organized mass discussions and reflections on the subject of "How great is the value of a shell", and guided the officers and soldiers of the ship to cherish every shell and cherish every opportunity for live fire. At the same time, the ship decided to use the remaining ammunition after each live ammunition fired to organize additional training sessions.

"The opportunity for live ammunition training is rare. We will definitely cherish it and compare it with actual combat!" After the live ammunition training on the second day, the officers and soldiers of the Luoma Lake ship training told the author: "Use the remaining ammunition to organize live ammunition tactical training. Experienced the atmosphere of actual combat training."

Every bullet should be cherished

  ■Zhang Kejin

A veteran of the Eighth Route Army recalled that during the offensive battle of the Anti-Japanese War, our army generally only received 5 rounds of ammunition and a grenade. When the enemy was about 100 meters away from the enemy, the shot was fired. Then quickly leaped forward to the enemy for hand-to-hand combat. After a battle, many people often have 2 bullets left.

Why do our revolutionary ancestors would rather give up their lives and save ammunition in the battle of life and death? Because they knew the price of ammunition, they demanded that they "destroy an enemy with every bullet." Today, although the guarantee conditions of our army are far from comparable to those of the past, the spirit of diligence and thrift in building the army of our ancestors is always worth inheriting and carrying forward.

What is the value of a shell? If the remaining shells are processed by "clearing the chamber", they will not generate any value except for wasting valuable military expenditure. The same is to organize a practical training, and the attitude towards the remaining ammunition is different, and the training quality and effectiveness are very different.

Ammunition consumption is an important indicator to measure the level of actual combat training. The organization and implementation of a live ammunition training is not easy, and every bullet should be cherished! We must attach importance to the issue of training efficiency and cost ratio, give full play to the value of each bullet and shell, train troops diligently and scientifically, and firmly follow the path of intensive and efficient military training.
