Outside McDonalds in Norsborg south of Stockholm, marshals form a heart. Inside the heart is a ring of flowers and candles.

In the parking lot, now a murder scene, stands Zuffe Özdemir, a friend of the shot 12-year-old girl's family.

He last met her at midsummer.

- I thought it was not true when I received the message. It hurts in the heart, says Zuffe Özdemir.

- She was full of life and love. So kind-hearted.

"Can happen to anyone"

He feels abandoned in the face of what he experiences is an increasingly harsh social climate. According to information to SVT Nyheter, the girl was out with the dog at night. Young people usually gather at that place and the girl met friends who she was going out to swim with on Sunday.

- We adults have to do something more than just wonder what a 12-year-old does outside so late in the day. It's summer, you should be able to go out with your dog without anything happening. This can happen to anyone, crime has become so serious. I lack words, says Zuffe Özdemir.

- I feel safe, but not for my children and grandchildren. You read about murder every day.

"Wonderful man"

Also present were relatives of the family who lit marshals in memory of the girl.

- She was a wonderful person. Positive and happy, very social with many friends.

- She was loved and cared about everything and everyone. Even though she was so small, she could ask us older people how we were doing. She meant everything to us. It's terribly tragic that this could happen. It's inconceivable. How could that happen?

Neighbor: Avoid gas

Angelica, who does not want to give her last name, has lived in the same area as the girl for several years.

She feels safe, but is careful out on the town.

- I'm not surprised anymore when something like this happens. I'm checking how close it was to me this time. Which is awful to think, she says.

- I feel safe here in the area, it feels like we live a bit in the woods, but I choose my places where I go out in the evening. At the gas station, where it happened, I would not choose to go.
