The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment recorded an improvement in the level of air quality at the state level, and this comes in its efforts to monitor and monitor air quality levels at the state level, in cooperation with the relevant government agencies, as the rate of nitrogen oxide emissions, which mostly cause the transportation system, decreased by 45 % In five months, the period from February to June 2020, compared to the same period last year.

The director of the Department of Green Development and Environmental Affairs in the Ministry, Eng. Aisha Al-Abdouli, said, “The ministry’s ongoing close monitoring of the air quality rates across the 52 monitoring stations distributed nationwide, and through the latest technologies used in the Ministry’s Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, In cooperation and coordination with many state agencies and institutions, it resulted in a noticeable decrease in many air pollutants during the last period, due to the decrease in the frequency of daily life activities within the framework of the precautionary measures followed to meet the challenge of the emerging Corona Virus pandemic (Covid 19) ».

Al-Abdouli explained that the most important polluter whose clear rate has been recorded, at the global and local levels, is nitrogen oxide, which is closely related to transportation and transportation, which in turn witnessed a significant decline in the frequency of its movement during the past period, due to the precautionary measures that were applied locally And globally.

She pointed out that the concentrations of nitrogen oxides concentrations decreased at rates ranging between 10 and 69%, according to monitoring stations spread across the country. In general, the average decrease of these pollutants at the whole country level reached 45% during the period from the first of February to the end of last June.

Moreover, according to the results of permanent follow-up and monitoring implemented by the Ministry of Climate Change and the Environment, in cooperation with the relevant federal and local government agencies, the air quality ratios in general recorded growth during 2019 compared to 2018, where the percentage of green days recorded over the year reached 81% of Days in 2019, compared to 71% of green days in 2018.

Throughout 2019, the Ministry was able to develop and modernize the air quality monitoring and monitoring system that it is working on, as the national project to inventory air quality pollutants was completed, and the technical regulations for controlling air quality measurements systems were completed, in cooperation with the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology, The post-2021 air quality strategy was started.

In parallel to the Ministry’s efforts, the year 2019 witnessed several efforts and initiatives to contribute to enhancing air quality at the state level, including the ratification of the Emirate of Dubai on the C40 Treaty, the launch of the Emirate of Dubai’s plan to convert 50% of the Dubai taxi fleet into hybrid and electric vehicles by 2021, and replace a fleet Public transport buses with new buses that meet the European specifications "Euro 5" and "Euro 6". The low-emission vehicles strategy, the low-emission regions strategy, and the shift to use gas fuel for government vehicles in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi were also prepared, and Noor Abu Dhabi, the largest independent solar power station in the world, was opened with a production capacity of 1177 megawatts, and the linkage project was launched The electronic network between the air quality monitoring network in the municipality of Fujairah and industrial facilities, in addition to many projects that have contributed to improving air quality results at the country level.

30% retreat

The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment recorded from 30 February to last April a 30% decline in nitrogen dioxide concentrations at rates ranging between 10 and 71%, according to monitoring stations spread across the country.

To 69% decrease in nitrogen oxide concentrations, according to the monitoring stations spread throughout the country.
