The Belgian Remco Evenepoel (Deceuninck), 20, won the Tour de Burgos after the 5th and last stage removed by the Colombian Ivan Sosa (Ineos) on Saturday at the Lagunas de Neila in Spain.

Sosa, 22, attacked in the final 500 meters of the climb to claim his third victory in three years at the finish site.

The young Evenepoel finished third in the stage, about ten seconds behind the Colombian, behind the Spaniard Mikel Landa.

After his successes in the Tour of San Juan (Argentina) and the Tour of Algarve (Portugal) earlier this year, he remained undefeated in 2020.

In the final climb (4.2 km at 11%), of this 158 km stage, Landa went on the attack at 3 km before an attempt by Evenepoel. Sosa, the defending champion but out of the game for the final victory after being left behind in the first summit finish on Thursday, put the finishing touches on the last ramps.
