• Anecdote: Queen Letizia, concerned about the rights of workers in Murcia

The land of Doña Letizia was the stage where the tour of the 17 autonomous communities that the Kings have carried out since the end of June concluded on Thursday. In Asturias they visited a waste management plant with the aim of underlining the importance of this type of sector in any circumstance but, especially, in situations as complicated as those experienced in the state of alarm. The same interest in giving visibility to the primary sector had marked the real day, a day earlier, in Cantabria, where the Monarchs thanked farmers, ranchers and fishmongers for the tireless work they did during the weeks of general confinement so that the supply chain continued to function and supplies were always guaranteed.

At Zarzuela they are very satisfied with how this royal tour has developed, which has been practically improvised on the fly. The Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands were the first two destinations, since the first objective of the State office was to promote Spain as a tourist destination coinciding with the reopening of the borders. The gratitude to the professionals most involved in the fight against the pandemic has also been very present in the acts chosen in the different communities, without forgetting the Crown's support for culture. It was highly applauded that the Monarchs and their two daughters attended the opening of such a unique edition of the Mérida Theater Festival.

In the 70s and 80s the do-it-yourself slogan that characterized punk became very fashionable . Don Felipe and Doña Letizia had no choice but to become a little punk , forced as they are to a certain reinvention of the Crown to improve their image and popularity in the midst of a perfect storm due to the scandals of Juan Carlos I but also due to the campaign of harassment and demolition of Podemos and the independence parties.

In these circumstances, it seemed essential to overstrain for public opinion to visualize the usefulness and activity of the Crown. And, given the impossibility of making trips abroad due to the pandemic and the scant strictly institutional activity that the Kings can carry out for the same reason, they have successfully removed a tour of these characteristics from their sleeves. " They have to step on less carpet and more on the street ", was in fact one of the most repeated recommendations by experts in monarchy.

Contact with the street has made it possible to verify that, even in such a difficult moment, the Crown continues to attract a level of popular affection much higher than that of any other institution. It is true that in some stops there have been more protests against the Kings than in previous visits, but it is not less so that the signs of sympathy have been much higher.

Two bitter notes in the final balance. On the one hand, Catalonia. The lack of control of the outbreaks prevented the Head of State from returning to Barcelona and the trip to Catalonia was limited to a visit to the Monastery of Poblet (Tarragona), so covered that the image was given that the boycott of the independentistas had triumphed. And, on the other, Ceuta and Melilla . A massive communication and coordination failure between Moncloa and Zarzuela led to the denial of the never-announced trip of the Kings to the two autonomous cities where they are expected as May water. The Government has wanted to avoid a fat crisis with Morocco. But His Majesties do not look good when it is made so explicit that two cities as Spanish cannot walk on any other.
