According to state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell, we have learned a great deal about how this disease works, but perhaps not as much about which countermeasures are effective.

When asked what we could have done differently, Tegnell answers the elderly care.

- We should have worked with elderly care in a different way from the beginning, we will certainly talk about that in the future, how we can maintain a better quality and better safety, he says and adds:

- On the whole, I think we have communicated this quite well. It is always difficult to communicate about things that are constantly changing and yet maintain a great deal of credibility.

If the infection were to pick up speed again this autumn, how would you change your strategy then?

- What we work a lot with now that we have fewer cases is to see how we can become good at tracing infections and breaking the chains of infection as quickly as possible - as we did a lot in the beginning when we had many cases that came from Italy. It will be a very important base for dealing with the outbreaks that we believe there is a great risk that we will get in different parts of Sweden, he says, says Anders Tegnell.

Wrong to compare us with Norway

To date, Norway has had 255 deaths and 9,172 confirmed cases of covid-19, while Sweden has had 5,739 deaths and over 80,000 confirmed cases. But Tegnell refuses to make any major comparisons between Sweden and Norway.

Is there a connection between our path choices and our death rates if you compare Sweden with Norway?

- This is what we will possibly learn more about at some point in the future. I think this is a completely wrong comparison. There is so much that sets us apart from Norway when it comes to this pandemic. We have now started to look more and more at Belgium, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, which have a more similar start to the epidemic as we had, meaning that we had a much more drastic start compared to Norway, says Tegnell and continues:

- Life is seldom so simple, behind the curve there are many different things. There are a number of countries that have carried out as severe shutdowns as Norway, which have not had that type of effect at all. Then you have to think about whether it is the shutdowns that are different or whether it is the conditions that are different.
