The representative of the State explained in particular that the wearing of the mask would be compulsory, from Monday, in certain areas of the public space, including the streets. The Lille town hall has already published a map of these areas where it will now be necessary to advance masked.

The decree of the prefect of the North concerns the 95 municipalities that make up the MEL. While most of the areas of public space in which the wearing of a mask should be systematic were defined by the prefecture, others had to be specified by the municipalities themselves. These are the famous “areas characterized by high public traffic. "

A perimeter that goes beyond the hyper center

This denomination mainly targets streets with a high density of shops which are not necessarily pedestrianized. For Lille, the example taken by the prefect on Friday morning was that of the rue de Gand, in Old Lille, an artery that has many bars and restaurants. In the map published by the municipality of Lille, we also note that many streets in Old Lille will be affected, mainly around the cathedral of Treille. There are also all the streets of the hyper center, especially those around rue Faidherbe. On the entire rue Gambetta, from Place de la République to the Wazemmes market, you will also have to wear a mask from Monday.
