The forest of Chiberta, is an island of greenery within the Bayonne-Biarritz-Anglet agglomeration, densely populated. But Thursday, an impressive fire destroyed 100 of the 250 hectares of the site. Throughout the night, some 145 firefighters mobilized fought against the flames and finally managed to bring the disaster under control. A total of eleven houses were affected, three of which were completely destroyed. About a hundred people had to be evacuated.

"The whole street has been evacuated by the police and firefighters, house by house, tells a resident of Europe 1." All around me, the forest, all the trees are black, they have burned to the top. On the ground, there are ashes everywhere. I'm not sure what to think. I am a little jaded ".
"We usually see that on TV"
"Me, I have all my family for many generations. We have always been there. My great-grandparents and grandparents, my parents, have never known a fire", continues the man, still under shock. "We expected everything except that. We see it on the usual TV, in Corsica or the Mediterranean, over there in areas a little more arid."
Now is the time for questions. "I don't know why it started, it's weird all the same", wonders our witness, who concludes, fatalistic: "We realize once again that we are nothing at all".
