The award is presented in three categories. Mohamed Ali (Syria) won in the nomination "Best Work from the Conflict Zone: Short Video" with the report "Truce has begun in Idlib."

Aleksandr Konevich (Russia) with a series of reports “Russian military in Syria” became the laureate in the category “Best Work from the Conflict Zone: Long Video”.

In the nomination "Best Work from the Conflict Zone: Text", the victory was awarded to Ruchi Kumar (India) for the publication "Why Iran is massively deporting Afghan refugees."

The jury consisted of war correspondent Yevgeny Poddubny and military correspondent RT Murad Gazdiev, as well as journalist, writer, expert in the field of US and Latin American foreign policy Eva Golinger, development director of the international association of broadcasters AIB Tom Regg, war correspondent of the Italian newspaper Il Giornale Jan Mikalessin, expert on Arab countries, correspondent for the Egyptian newspaper Youm7 Ahmed Gomaa and Greek journalist, laureate of international awards Konstantinos Antonopoulos.

Journalist Khaled al-Khatib was killed by militant rockets in the Syrian province of Homs in 2017. In his reports, he covered the battles of the Syrian government forces with terrorists.

In 2018, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree posthumously awarding Khaled al-Khatyb the Medal of Courage, which was presented to his family at the first Khaled Alkhateb Memorial Awards.
