The case has received a great deal of attention, especially since the girl was placed in a foster home at an early age, but less than a year before her death, she returned to her biological parents.

The girl's parents were suspected early in the case, but the father died in unclear circumstances in custody. The mother was charged with murder in the first place and for causing the death of another in the second place.

The district court will now decide on penalties

In June, the district court concluded that convincing evidence had emerged that the mother had negligently caused the girl's death. Since then, the mother has undergone a forensic psychiatric examination, which showed that the mother is not mentally ill. The probation service has also carried out a personal investigation of the mother. The investigation was completed earlier this week and it was stated that the mother should receive probation, something she herself opposed.

The district court will now decide what punishment the mother will receive. Anyone who has committed the crime of negligence causing the death of another can be sentenced to between one and six years in prison if it is deemed to be serious.
