Picnic: When traveling, bet on boxes to avoid motion sickness - 20 Minutes

  • This summer, every Thursday, 20 Minutes offers you a series on the art and how to have a good picnic wherever you are, by the water, on the train, on a hike or in a garden below. from your place.
  • These tips are signed by Raphaële Marchal, culinary journalist and author of the book “Passion Pique-Niques”, published in June by Michel Lafon.
  • This Thursday, how best to transport your picnic during a trip by car, train, boat ...

A "take away happiness". This summer, more than any other, the picnic is in tune with the times and an era that is struggling to deconfin itself. And if you are caught this weekend in the traditional crossover of the holidays, make the most of this "take-away happiness", as Raphaële Marchal calls it, food journalist and author of the book Passions Pique-Niques published in June by Michel Lafon.

“The picnic on the train is probably one of my favorites,” says Raphaële Marchal. He starts the excitement the day before, by assembling in boxes to take out at the right time, by spreading everything on the shelves of the train ... "

Just Raphaëlle advises she “to avoid Termignon blue, soft-boiled eggs, farmhouse yogurts and very fragrant clementines”, your scents should not embarrass your neighbors… Before changing their minds: “In the train, it's cool, so no risk of heatstroke on the whelks. Bring what you like. "

Boxes and gourds

By train, but also by boat, plane, or car ... the food journalist recommends Tupperware or bento-style boxes, in order to fit easily, "a beautiful black rice salad with feta, pomegranate, fresh herbs, honey and soy sauce vinaigrette ”; but also pieces of pizza or quiche. Even simpler: raw seasonal vegetables, radishes, carrots, cucumbers, zucchini ... to soak in a few small jars of good "spreadable": anchoïade, tapenade, hummus ... Add a piece of bread, fresh fruit, and the count is good ... on condition that you don't forget "the gourds full of fresh water or your favorite drink".

The face of your neighbors in their old sandwich will convince you that the picnic, while traveling, is a perfect “alternative to a sandwich in the station, to a wrap on the ferry, to a packet of crisps in the car”. It is not tasted in the middle of nature, of course, but at least it has arguments to reconcile you with the motorway areas.
