A 51-year-old man suspected of having at the wheel of his car hit head-on two prostitutes last week in Lyon was presented to the prosecution on Thursday, said the Rhône departmental public security directorate (DDSP). On July 23, around 3 a.m., two prostitutes from the Dominican Republic, aged 27 and 55, were violently hit by a van and propelled "12 meters and 17 meters from the point of impact," said the DDSP.

The two women were both hospitalized and the vital prognosis of the youngest was still on Thursday. The fifty-year-old suffers from multiple fractures but her life is not in danger, according to the same source.

Asleep at the wheel

The investigation, conducted by the departmental security brigade of the Rhône, made it possible to determine the model of the fleeing vehicle and to locate the garage where the van was being repaired.

Shortly after 2 p.m. on Tuesday, the police arrested the owner of the vehicle on his way to the garage. This Lyonnais unknown to the police services admitted to having been the driver of the van at the time of the facts and declared to have fallen asleep at the wheel, denying himself having deliberately run over the two women. The investigation has not determined at this stage of deliberate act on the part of the driver, according to the DDSP.
