The Covid-19 has caused a profound crisis in many sectors, but, without a doubt, one of the most affected has been that of hospitality and nightlife. To the narrowing in the profit margins of the businesses that have been able to open -many have closed temporarily or permanently- due to the limitations applied, now we add the new security measures imposed by the Government of the Community of Madrid, which will mean " a disaster »for businesses, as pointed out by different associations.

Among them, and to try to stop the second wave of the virus that is beginning to be felt already in Madrid, the bars and nightlife venues should all close at 1.30 in the morning. A measure that comes to give the final score to many businesses. So much so, that 90% of nightlife, culture and entertainment venues prefer that the regional president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, decree "the complete closure of the sector and the implementation of a Rescue Plan", compared to 10 , 2% that sees viable to open assuming the new restrictions.

This is indicated by an express survey carried out among 100 businesses by the Platform for Leisure, Culture and Hospitality of Madrid. From this group they remember that the discotheques were already developing their activity with 40% of the capacity of security and without dance floor. "Closing at 1.30 am becomes de facto the imposition of a closure taking into account that carrying out the activity in this way is not feasible," they point out from the platform.

And it is that, during the last weeks, the few nightlife venues that have opened in the region - about 35% - have only taken over 32% of the regular public, which has «generated losses for each day they were open ».

For the platform, it is urgent and necessary that a total closure be decreed and a rescue shock plan be activated for SMEs that, "otherwise, will be bankrupt and the accumulation of employment regulation records before the impossibility of keeping their companies closed for a longer time ».

From this sector they are also forceful against the policies taken by the regional government, fruit, according to they assure, of the “improvisation”. «We are witnessing the accumulation of worrying messages about the evolution of the disease, without the Administration offering any certainty; The most convenient thing at the moment for SMEs is to establish a period of closure of companies and a review schedule of all these measures that allows transmitting a minimum of confidence ", denounce from the Platform, which also criticizes that there is no period of" adaptation »for« the implantation »of the Covid primer. That is why this Tuesday they already sent a letter to the regional president to urgently discuss solutions for the sector.

Meanwhile, the Madrid Hospitality Association also demanded yesterday from the Díaz Ayuso government that, in light of the new restrictions, it design a "rescue plan" for the sector to avoid "the economic collapse" of companies. In a statement, Hostelería Madrid alleges that the obligation to close the premises at 1.30 am is "a new limitation" that "deepens the crisis in the sector", which in the first half of 2020 lost 35,783 workers (19% of the total ) and 453 self-employed entrepreneurs.

"We need public administrations to be agile to find quick financing solutions for companies," says Juan José Blardony, CEO of Hostelería Madrid. In this sense, the association complains that the lines of guarantees announced in June by the regional government "have not yet been implemented." Employers reiterate that "consumption in hospitality is safe", and ask customers for their collaboration in complying with the new measures.
