• Aid Plan Covid-19. The Madrid plan for cultural de-escalation: 7.5 million in subsidies, free tickets to toilets and a reduction in the filming rate
  • Live.Latest hour of the coronavirus health crisis

Madrid will once again be a great film and television set. From the City Council it has been decided to cede free of charge the cultural centers and spaces managed by Madrid Destino to facilitate the return of filming of movies, series and documentaries to the capital. Thus, places such as the Spanish Theaters, or the Circo Price, the Caja Mágica, the Casa Conde Duque, the Matadero, the Medialab-Prado or the Venta del Batán venue may be used by audiovisual producers at no cost until 31 December. December 2020 .

The measure, approved on Friday, July 24 by the City Council, is part of the Aplaude Madrid plan that includes aid to the cultural sector for a value of 7.5 million euros to alleviate the effects of the coronavirus health crisis.

For film and television filming, at first, the feasibility of a reduction in rates was studied , but finally the Culture Area of the capital decided to "take a stronger step in the measures for the audiovisual sector".

The projects that request this free transfer "will be valued based on their contribution to the revitalization of the cultural and economic fabric of the city," reported the City Council. They must also have a reasonable duration and will depend on the availability and characteristics of each space.

However, they cannot interfere with the commitments and scheduling of the Artistic Directors of the centers and theaters , nor in the commercial operations and assignments carried out by Madrid Destino due to its own commercial nature.

To access this incentive, interested parties must manage the respective permits through the City of Madrid Film Office.

During 2019, Madrid broke the world record by having 66 fiction series from both national and international networks and 35 feature films shot on its streets. The number of applications for audiovisual projects that reached the City Council closed at 11,760, of which 4,438 were permits with occupation of public space that left more than 500,000 euros to Madrid's municipal coffers.
