- In the EU and in Sweden, we have investigated these companies for a long time, the last five to eight years, but now they have started in the US and really understood that these are companies that affect the conditions in many markets.

The question now is what effect the congressional hearings of the CEOs of Amazon, Apple, Facebook and Google owner Alphabet will have in the long run.

- The congressional hearings in particular do not lead to any direct intervention, but many American authorities listen to this and can use it as part of their investigations. And investigations are underway against all four companies right now regarding various aspects, says Martin Mandorff.

"Not illegal to be big"

During tonight's interrogation, Amazon's CEO Jeff Bezos, Google and Alphabet's CEO Sundar Pichai, Facebook's CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Apple's CEO Tim Cook have denied the allegations and insisted that it is not illegal to be big.

- And they are right. They have grown because of their incredible efficiency and innovation. The problem is that they now have such power that there is a risk that they may prevent new companies from challenging them. And that is when we competition authorities come in and ensure that these markets are kept dynamic, so that consumers can get new products from other companies.

EU more important for Sweden

Whether the investigations against the tech giants will have any effect in Sweden is unclear, according to Martin Mandorff.

- For us, more important is what happens at EU level. But of course, if there are new regulations in the US, it will affect how these companies behave globally.
