This Tuesday, July 28, 2020 will remain a historic day for the Bassin d'Arcachon zoo, located in Teste-de-Buch. For the first time, the caregivers of the park witnessed the birth of a giraffe. Good news shared on social networks with a little video of the newborn.

The zoo specifies that "Lina the mother and the baby are doing very well" a few hours after the happy event. The giraffe already measures nearly 1.80m. The park's capacity manager explains to Sud Ouest that there are only “800 wild giraffes of this species in the world” (Rotschild's giraffe).

We do not yet know the sex of the giraffe. The animal should stay two years with its mother before heading to another zoo to reproduce.
