The International Cycling Union (UCI) announced on Wednesday "to impose more severe penalties" in the event of a deviation from the health protocol governing the resumption of the season, which target in particular race organizers.

"If an event organizer does not implement the measures required by the protocol, the UCI may take a series of measures ranging from the formal notice to apply the measures (...) to the withdrawal from the international road calendar of the UCI of the event or any other event of the organizer ", brandishes the body governing world cycling in a press release accompanying the update published Wednesday of its protocol.

Its previous version only provided for fines of 1,000 to 10,000 Swiss francs (930 to 9,300 EUR) for breaches.

This "reinforced" protocol is the "fruit of numerous exchanges between the UCI and the families of road cycling, in particular the teams", explains the institution based in Aigle, Switzerland.

According to this, the organizers are required among other things to "limit the number of spectators in the finish areas", to "maintain a safety distance between the public and the runners" or to "separate the steps of the podium from 1.5 meters ".
