07 April 2015In Turkey access to the main social media and to 164 sites that had published a photo concerning the kidnapping of a magistrate by the far left group Dhkp-C was blocked. After a few hours, Facebook and Twitter became visible again after they both obeyed the order to remove the photo from their pages. Then the access to Youtube was also restored.

The photo of the killed judge
The decision by the Turkish authorities came after the photo of pm Mehmet Selim Kiraz with the gun to his temple appeared on the Net and on many social media while he was held hostage by two Dhkp-C militants, last Tuesday, before the blitz of the leather heads ended tragically. The Turkish presidency spokesman, Ibrahim Kalin, explained that the prosecutor's office blocked access to social media sites that made "propaganda of terrorism", sharing the images of the kidnapped magistrate.

Utimatum to Google
The Turkish authorities have also threatened to block Google if it does not remove the photos of the pm hostage of the left-wing extremists. The ultimatum given by a Turkish court to the search engine expired at 1:30 local time, midnight and a half in Italy.

Censored social networks
The blockade of social media by a Turkish court recalled the analogous measure that was was taken in March 2014 to counter the spread of corruption complaints against the Islamic-conservative government of Recep Tayyp Erdogan, now president. Twitter and YouTube were blocked during the election campaign following the publication of the audios testifying to corruption cases involving the government. The dark had been severely contested by the international community.
