28 July 2020 4 Italian films will be competing at the 77th Venice International Film Festival, from 2 to 12 September. This was announced by director Alberto Barbera, presenting the program of the exhibition during a streaming press conference.

In competition for the Leone d'Oror, Emma Dante's "Le sorelle Macaluso", based on a theatrical piece written by the director on the theme of the family and blood ties; "Miss Marx" by Susanna Nicchiarelli, on the life of Marx's second daughter, one of the first women to approach feminism; "Padrenostro" by Carlo Noce, produced and performed by Pierfrancesco Favino; "Notturno", by Gianfranco Rosi, the result of two years of exploration in Syria, in which, says Barbera, "you will not see combat images, but the devastation left in individuals in an atrocious and inhuman conflict". 

The competition of the Orizzonti section of Venice 77 sees in competition the debut of Pietro Castellittoas a director, with his "I predatori", which he also wrote and interpreted. In the cast, Massimo Popolizio, Manuela Mandracchia, Giorgio Montanini, Dario Cassini, Anita Caprioli, Marzia Ubaldi, Antonio Gerardi, Nando Paone and Vinicio Marchioni appear in the cast. It is the story of two completely different families, the Pavone and the Vismara, opposite nuclei that share the same jungle, Rome, and that the madness of a twenty year old will make contact. "A curious and promising debut - said the director Alberto Barbera - in 'I predatori' there is malice, satire and courage to dare".

To close the 77th Venice Film Festival will still be an Italian film, "Let me go" by Stefano Mordini, a psychological thriller with Stefano Accorsi, Valeria Golino, Maya Sansa and Serena Rossi, shot in Venice.

"Salvatore - shoemaker of dreams", on the other hand, is Luca Guadagnino's documentary on the story of Salvatore Ferragamo, a cobbler who landed in Hollywood from his Bonito, in the province of Avellino. Among the 10 non-fiction films Out of Competition announced by the director Alberto Barbera three other Italians: Giuseppe Pedersoli with his "The truth about the Dolce vita" which with unpublished documents reconstructs the story of Fellini's masterpiece, "Molecole" by Andrea Segre and "Paolo Conte, go with me "by Giorgio Verdelli. The singer-songwriter will be in Venice on 11 September.
