According to UNIAN, the street was named in honor of Yuri Litvinsky, who died in 2014 near Ilovaisk during the operation of the Ukrainian security forces in Donbass.

The corresponding decision was supported by 61 out of 82 deputies at a meeting of the Kiev City Council.

In February, it was reported that the Kharkiv City Council again voted to return the name of the Soviet Marshal Georgy Zhukov to Petr Grigorenko Avenue.
