The second vice president of the Government and secretary general of Podemos, Pablo Iglesias, has assured this Tuesday that he sees "bad news" the suspension of the third degree of five prisoners convicted by the illegal referendum on October 1, among which are the leader from ERC, Oriol Junqueras, in addition to the president of Òmnium Cultural, Jordi Cuixart, and the former president of the ANC, Jordi Sànchez.

In several messages published on social networks, collected by Europa Press, Iglesias has defended "the commitment to democracy and dialogue" of the five prisoners who have had their semi-freedom regime suspended. "I have visited all five in prison and I have no doubts about their commitment to democracy and dialogue, even if they do not share their project at all," he said.

The leader of Podemos has not entered to assess "the legal quality of a judicial decision", although "politically", he said, the "suspension of the semi-freedom of the pro-independence prisoners is bad news" for those who defend dialogue with Catalonia "to face the conflict in the current legal framework".

In this sense, Iglesias has explained that he suspects that "many citizens in Catalonia and in Spain as a whole will once again have the feeling that justice is not always the same for everyone." "That this feeling breaks through is bad for our democracy," he lamented.

The Catalan Prison Surveillance Court number 5 has accepted this Tuesday to suspend the third degree of five of the 1-O prisoners as a result of the appeal filed by the Barcelona Provincial Prosecutor's Office.

In five orders consulted by Europa Press, the head of the court agrees, as the prosecutor has requested, that the appeal have suspensive effects and process it preferentially and urgently.

The decision also affects former councilors Raül Romeva and Joaquim Forn, while the Penitentiary Surveillance Court 1 will have to take a position on the appeal that affects the former president of the Parliament, Carme Forcadell.
