The investigation continues ... The German police have been carrying out searches since Tuesday morning in a workers' garden near Hanover, announced the Braunschweig prosecutor's office, responsible for the file of the mysterious disappearance of Maddie McCann.

"These searches are linked to our investigation into the Maddie McCann affair," said Julia Meyer, spokeswoman for the prosecution, without giving further details, while German investigators believe that the girl who disappeared 13 years ago is deceased.

German repeat offender in the sights

German police announced in June that they were investigating a new suspect, a 43-year-old repeat offender pedophile, currently in Germany on drug trafficking charges, whom they suspect in the murder of the British girl.

Presented as "Christian B.", he lived and worked for several years, between 1995 and 2007, in the Portuguese region of Algarve, where the girl disappeared. "For the German police to make this information public, it is because it must certainly have other elements," said Rogério Alves, the Portuguese lawyer for the McCanns.

The German police, who have called for witnesses, do not rule out that he broke into the McCann's apartment to commit a theft and, once there, that he decided to remove the little girl.

Madeleine McCann disappeared from her room on May 3, 2007, a few days before her fourth birthday, in the small seaside resort of Praia da Luz, in the south of Portugal, where she was staying on vacation with her family.

After 14 months of controversial investigations, marked in particular by the indictment of the parents of the girl, Gerry and Kate McCann, finally cleared, the Portuguese police had closed the case in 2008 before reopening the case five years later.
