China News Service, Beijing, July 28 (Huang Yuqin) Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wang Wenbin announced at a regular press conference on the 28th: China has decided to suspend the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Hong Kong, Hong Kong, Macao, Hong Kong and Britain surrender of fugitives agreement, and at the same time, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Suspend Hong Kong-Canada, Hong Kong-Macao, Hong Kong-British mutual legal assistance agreements in criminal matters.

Wang Wenbin pointed out that Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom unilaterally announced the suspension of the surrender of fugitive offenders agreement signed with the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region on the pretext of China’s enactment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region’s National Security Law. This grossly interfered in China’s internal affairs and seriously violated international law and basic norms of international relations. Resolutely oppose this.
Wang Wenbin said that with the assistance and authorization of the central government, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region has always provided active assistance to Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom under the framework of the agreement in accordance with the Basic Law. Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom will politicize judicial cooperation in Hong Kong. The erroneous actions of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region have severely damaged the basis of judicial cooperation between the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom, and deviated from the purpose of judicial cooperation to safeguard justice and the rule of law. For this reason, China has decided to suspend the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Hong Kong, Hong Kong, Macau, and Hong Kong-British surrender agreements on fugitive offenders.
