“Maas’s statement is in the context of the policy pursued by Germany towards Russia in connection with the situation in Ukraine, in connection with the reunification of Crimea with Russia. Although he is more than sure, Maas understands perfectly well that Crimea will never return to Ukraine ... They constantly say standard phrases, cliches, which, in my opinion, do not carry constructiveness, ”Tsekov explained.

The senator noted that Russia “is not asking for the G7” and is not trying to turn this format into a “G8”.

“The G20 is already coming to the fore… This statement is not original. If they adhere to this direction all the time, then neither the EU nor the world community will receive any development, ”the parliamentarian concluded.

Earlier, Maas opposed the return of Russia to the G7.

He stressed that the reasons for the exclusion of Russia were the reunification with Crimea, as well as the Ukrainian situation.
