The report shows that in the first quarter of 2020, Greece has the highest average electricity price among the 27 EU member states.

  According to reports, the wholesale price of electricity in Greece is 50 euros per MWh, which is about 50% higher than the EU average price of 34 euros per MWh. Malta followed closely at 45 Euros per MWh, followed by Bulgaria at 42 Euros per MWh, Romania and Poland both at 41 Euros per MWh.

  The report pointed out that from January to March 2020, electricity prices in Sweden were 17 euros per MWh, while electricity prices in Greece were three times those in Sweden. The European Commission’s report explained that, compared with other EU countries, Greece often relies on electricity imports, while cross-border imports are limited. At the same time, Greece is also facing the problems of reduced coal production and high emission costs.
