According to the district court's description of the crime, which the Court of Appeal accepted, the man abused the woman "recklessly" to death in the couple's home, in Västerås. The man is said to have used an ax to beat her.

The man's lawyer writes in the appeal that his client "apparently" acted "under the influence of strong affection" and that both the Court of Appeal and the District Court incorrectly attributed to him an intention of indifference.

Wants to be released from murder

The convicted man's lawyer requests in the first place that HD acquits his client of the murder and in the second place that he is instead convicted of murder.

Shorter penalties

The Court of Appeal reduced the man's sentence at the beginning of July 2020 and now he demands that HD further shorten his client's prison sentence, taking into account his old age. According to the appeal, the district court and the court of appeal reduced the sentence by 11 percent and 12.5 percent, respectively, due to the man's age.

But now his lawyer is asking for HD to clarify how age reduction should be applied to long prison sentences and demands a penalty reduction of 30-50 percent for his client.
