The city officials ask in particular for access to various files, the possibility of carrying out identity checks, or even the authorization to close “establishments posing recurring problems of public tranquility or not respecting municipal decrees”.
"One more step" to "support the State"
Prime Minister Jean Castex, on a trip to Nice on Saturday, announced several initiatives against insecurity, and in particular the forthcoming experimentation in Nice to extend the powers of the municipal police.
"For several years, we have been fighting so that security, which is primarily the responsibility of the State, is ensured with force and authority", write the authors of the forum, of which Christian Estrosi is the first signatory: " Today, we affirm that we are ready to take one more step to support the State in this mission, in a context of terrorist threat and delinquency undoubtedly reinforced by the health, economic and social crises linked to Covid-19 ".
Among the signatories are Michèle Lutz (Mulhouse), Émile Roger Lombertie (Limoges), Franck Louvrier (La Baule-Escoublac) and Alain Chrétien (Vesoul). They propose a “convention” reinforcing the powers of “voluntary mayors with an appropriate administration”. This agreement would give them in particular "full access to files such as those of driving licenses, stolen cars, wanted persons, S files".
