Statement on the Responsibilities of the Consular District of the Chinese Embassy in Houston

On July 21, the United States outrageously unilaterally requested China to close the Consulate General in Houston within a time limit, which seriously violated international law and basic norms of international relations and the relevant provisions of the Sino-US Consular Treaty, and deliberately undermined Sino-US relations. China strongly condemns and firmly opposes it, and urges the US to revoke the wrong decision as soon as possible.

The Chinese Embassy in the United States has always been committed to promoting the healthy and stable development of Sino-US relations, and is committed to enhancing the exchanges and cooperation between the two countries and the friendship between the two peoples. This move by the United States has seriously damaged the normal exchanges and cooperation between the people of the southern states of the United States and China and their right to obtain consular services from the Chinese government, which is completely unpopular.

Taking into account the desire and needs of the southern states of the United States to continue to carry out exchanges and cooperation with China, in order to solve the actual difficulties caused by the US's unreasonable actions to the southern states of the United States and China, the Chinese Embassy in the United States will temporarily take charge of the work originally undertaken by the Consulate General in Houston, As always, we will provide various services for people from all walks of life in the consular district.

If you need consular assistance, please contact our Embassy in time or report to the Consular Protection and Service Center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
