In August 1958, the central government proposed to use purely domestic cars on the tenth anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, and assigned tasks to the FAW. Only 33 days later, the first high-end sedan made purely by the Chinese came out, and it also has a very distinctive name of the times, "Hongqi."
At the 1959 National Celebration Ceremony, 10 brand new Hongqi cars were unveiled at the same time, showing the world the cars made by the Chinese themselves. The "Hongqi" car witnessed the emergence of China's automobile industry from scratch, demonstrated the backbone and hard work of the Chinese back then, and also carried the special emotions of the Chinese people.
The "Hongqi" car has experienced rapid development and once faced pains and even stopped production due to high fuel consumption and unprofitable reasons. At the end of 2017, China FAW released the new Hongqi brand strategy, which will fully promote the revival of the national car brand by strengthening new product research and development, marketing model innovation, and factory intelligent transformation.
On the afternoon of July 23, 2020, General Secretary Xi Jinping, who was inspecting in Jilin, came to the China FAW Group Research and Development Institute, walked into the laboratory to understand the company's technology research and development, and inspected the latest styles of vehicle products of independent brands such as "Hongqi". Xi Jinping encouraged the people of FAW to take key technologies and core technologies in their own hands, "We must have this ambition, and we must develop our national brand."
