July 24, 2020 A three-year-old girl died of the coronavirus in Belgium, the youngest victim in the country. The girl had pre-existing "serious" diseases.      

The inter-federal spokesperson covid-19, the expert Boudewijn Catry, announced it during a press conference. "This news is deeply troubling us as scientists and as parents. I take this moment to send my deepest condolences to the family" of the child, said the expert.

In March, again due to the coronavirus, a twelve year old girl died. Catry added that the death toll has increased in Belgium: an average of three per day last week. "Nobody is immune" from the virus, he added.  

The Belgian anti-covid-19 crisis center is alerting the population not to let down their guard given the increase in infections. "The upward trend has not yet stopped. It is of the utmost importance to stop it as soon as possible", stressed the spokesman of the health authorities. Since the beginning of the epidemic, 64,847 cases of contagion have been diagnosed in Belgium, of which 416 in the alone Monday day. The total number of deaths is 9,812. . The province of Antwerp has the highest number of cases. The government has announced new measures: mandatory mask in open markets and in crowded areas, as well as in areas open to citizens of public buildings.
