Just before four o'clock on Wednesday, four people were hit by a car on the small road in Färjestaden in Mörbylånga municipality on Öland. Two of the persons, a boy, under the age of 15, and a woman in the age of 45 died from the injuries they received in connection with the accident.

Ann Willsund, Mörbylånga's municipal manager, lives right near the accident site. She describes the incident as shocking.

- The thoughts go to those who are affected. It is extremely tragic, says Ann Willsund to TT.

Usually quiet bike path

She describes the road as a quiet road that is often used by cyclists.

- This is a very nice bike path, it is not just a bike path but cars drive there too, but it is not a dangerous road.

Many who cycle on Öland

There are many who are cycling on Öland right now, states the municipal director.

- It's nice weather, summer, many vacancies and many bikes on Öland, that's it.

The car and bicycles have been seized. It is unclear if other cyclists were in the vicinity of the accident.

The driver of the car has been questioned by the police and the initial criminal classifications are aggravated drug driving, aggravated negligence in traffic, aggravated causing another person's death in two cases and causing bodily injury.
