“An exchange of views was held on the current situation in the Caucasus. In connection with the recent escalation of violence between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the Russian side emphasized the need to display balanced approaches and exert a deterrent effect on the parties involved in the conflict, ”the Foreign Ministry said.
It is noted that Russia is in favor of ensuring security on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, as well as stepping up efforts for the Nagorno-Karabakh settlement.
"It was agreed to develop cooperation between Moscow and Ankara in the interests of stabilization in the region," the department added.
On July 13, Lavrov discussed with the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan the aggravation of the situation on the border of the two countries and called on the parties to show restraint.
