• The exit ends today the mandate of Félix Sanz Roldán in the CNI without the Government being able to choose a successor
  • The relay. The replacement of General Sanz Roldan at the head of the CNI points to a woman

Iberdrola has signed the former director of the National Intelligence Center ( CNI ) Félix Sanz Roldán as a member of an international geopolitical advisory panel of the company's president, Ignacio Galán. The incorporation occurs in the midst of a judicial investigation of the work carried out by Commissioner José Manuel Villarejo in the field of security for the electricity company.

Iberdrola sources dissociate the incorporation of Sanz Roldán from this matter and relate it to an issue with a comprehensive geopolitical vision that helps strengthen the group's security in all the markets in which it operates. The company highlights that there will be no contractual relationship, nor is it part of the workforce.

Sanz Roldán will share an armchair in this international advisory body with former ministers, ambassadors and former senior officials of the European Commission, although the identity of its constituent members is not public. The body meets regularly and submits its recommendations and reports to the group's council.

Sanz Roldán ceased in May 2019 as director of the CNI after 10 years in office, in which he had the rank of secretary of state. According to reports of compensation to former senior administration officials, until July 1, 2021, he has been assigned a monthly pension of 6,848 euros.

The general has had to receive authorization from the Government of Pedro Sánchez to be able to hold the position at Iberdrola after leaving the public function. The report that gave the green light to the signing is dated June 29, as recorded in the records of the transparency portal.

The signing of Sanz Roldán coincides with the judicial investigation of the group for its commissions in security matters to Commissioner Villarejo. The Audiencia Nacional investigates the contracts as a separate part of Operation Tandem, which analyzes the work carried out by the police for different groups of the Ibex in relation to access to restricted documentation, monitoring of persons, or communications interventions without judicial authorization.

The electricity company recognized on February 24 up to 17 payments to the Cenyt company that the police officer directed, although it assures that it always complied with internal procedures and acted within the law. The company commissioned a forensic from Pwc to investigate ties to Villarejo and fired its chief of security, Antonio Asenjo.
